These are our most industrious and inspiring trees: the Whitebark Pines and Douglas Firs that provide our paper, furniture, beams and joists, and the Giant Sequoias that draw families west every summer. I have painted these in homage of their heroism. Some areas of the U.S. have turned to predicting their die-off – an affect of climate change and over-harvesting. Others have begun restoration efforts. The Conifers, meanwhile, continue with dignity to provide for countless creatures, regardless of our economy.
